The Dress, the shoes, the bridesmaids, the suits. Wedding clothing review and recommendations!

The Dress

I always imagined I’d wear something flowy and light. It took me a while to find the right dress amidst all the tulle and lace, but I finally saw the dress I’d been looking for online – Jacee by Maggie Sottero. I couldn’t find it anywhere in stores, but Lulu’s in Uptown was able to locate one dress in my size in the entire country. I figured it was fate and ordered the dress sight unseen. When it arrived and I finally tried it on, I had the breathless moment everyone talks about! I’m getting MEWWIED!! 🙂

The dress was the perfect combination of classic and modern that I was looking for. It moved beautifully! I would definitely recommend the dress for any beach/outdoor bride, or someone who likes a modernized grecian look. Lulu’s did a great job finding the dress and doing the alterations. I also got my veil from Lulu’s.

Bridesmaid Dresses

I had been looking for flowy gray dresses for my lovely bridesmaids (and yellow for my MOH), and I wanted something that was not going to break the bank. Thankfully, Etsy came through, and I found these awesome custom dresses at the store harsuccthing for an amazing price.

We did a test run with one dress first and it turned out great! The fit in the bustier was one of the best I’ve ever seen in a dress. Possibly even better than my wedding dress! Highly recommend ordering a dress from this shop. The quality and fit was awesome! I’m actually considering ordering more cocktail dresses from them.

Groom & Groomsmen Suits

Studio Suits is an online bespoke men’s clothing shop. The site walks you through the process of gathering measurements and picking out details. The quality of the suits, price (~$100) and the speed of the delivery was great! I was very happy with the resulting gray linen vest & pants and would definitely recommend ordering groom’s outfits from this company. It was cheaper than renting and custom made for each guy.

If I had needed something more formal and had a bigger budget, I would have ordered from Black Lapel. Will likely get a suit for Colin there one day. Love the customization options!

If you haven’t already heard of TheTieBar.com, go now! These ties are $15 and available in every color and material. You are sure to find the tie you need here without having to spend so much!

I think I bought 3 pairs of shoes in the process of figuring out what to wear on my feet. Since we were getting married on a sandy spot, I wasn’t sure if I should wear heels or wedges. I ultimately went with heels and it was fine since the are had hard packed sand.

The shoes I ended up with were these sparkly babies, Helice2 from Ivanka Trump, that worked well with the little bit of sparkle in my dress. They were very comfortable, but I did eventually give up and put on these wedges from Forever21 that one of my bridesmaids brought along. Those babies were awesome to finish out dancing all night at our reception and the bars in San Juan after!

 Vietnamese Dress – Ao Dai

We had a simplified Vietnamese engagement ceremony during our rehearsal dinner. I wanted to wear a modernized Vietnamese Ao Dai (pronounced ‘ow yeye’). It took me forever to find a place to actually make one for me here in Dallas. The first place I went to the old lady told me I shouldn’t do a sleeveless one b/c people would talk, so I walked the hell out of there! Lady, people are already talking all the time and I don’t need you to tell me what to do. Luckily, I found a very accomodating  Nhu Y Tailoring in Arlington, TX.

I ended up picking a magenta fabric with silver accents for my dress b/c all the traditional red ones had way too much bling on them. I asked the tailor to do a one shoulder design with silver pants and picked a matching silver hat called a khang dong that is typically only worn on special occasions or if you are in a pageant or if you want to feel like a Vietnamese princess.

I was SO thrilled with the way the dress turned out. The seamstress took some creative liberty and added a silver band across the top that looked awesome.  The fit was impeccable and I would definitely recommend getting an ao dai from here if you are in the Dallas area.

 Heart Hair Pieces

I went to get a blowout at Dry Bar and saw these adorable yellow sequined heart hair pins and thought they were perfect. Loved the way they looked on my girls! Looks like they are sold out online, but I’ve seen them in stores.
